As far as I know, both WIndows and macOS are capable of unpacking gzipped tarballs either out-of-the-box or with a third-party tool like WinRAR and 7z. Is there any reason to keep macOS and Windows builds different in that regard?
@ainar-g commented on GitHub (May 4, 2021):
Weirdly enough, Windows 10 seems to come with a console version of
tar(or, at the very least, a PowerShell alias) that unpacks.tar.gzarchives successfully, but the GUI either doesn't seem to know that or requires some additional info for the “Extract here” button to work.
