As far as I know, both WIndows and macOS are capable of unpacking gzipped tarballs either out-of-the-box or with a third-party tool like WinRAR and 7z. Is there any reason to keep macOS and Windows builds different in that regard?

Weirdly enough, Windows 10 seems to come with a console version of tar (or, at the very least, a PowerShell alias) that unpacks .tar.gz archives successfully, but the GUI either doesn't seem to know that or requires some additional info for the “Extract here” button to work.
