I have searched the existing issues, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate report.

The bug

I have over 18K assets which I want to move from iCloud to Immich. All of them went perfectly except for the last 9.

when the remainder was at 9 it somehow doesn't process. I have tried restarting/reinstalling the app without avail.

The logs under profile also do not log anything when I press "start backup"

The only logs I see for Immich-Server is:

Reproduction steps

Go to the backup page
Select albums to backup. In my case only recents (i.e all photos) sync albums disabled.
Start backup. when the remainder hits 9 it simply does not continue even if stopping/starting the process.

I think I am able to reproduce it.

under settings -> advanced. There is duplicated assets. this shows "3". When pressing clear, the remainder assets goes from 9 to 12.

When pressing backup it starts and the remainder goes down to 9 and then stops...

I also noticed while the backup asset counter is (total) is correct some photos (especially old ones) are not in my library.. I haven't double checked if the total is 9 or more that are missing, but I will be sure to see if everything matches with my iCloud Libary once I have figured a way to make the backup process not get stuck at 9 remaining assets.

There is something clearly wrong with the Immich iOS app and how it backs up photos. It is so unstable for me that I can't rely on it as I wanted. Mine continues to go up and down for asset count that needs to be backed up. Today it now says I have 1154 assets to backup but then gets stuck at one photo and never moves. This then keeps any new photos from being backed up and the problem goes on and on. I'm not sure why the statement of "Apple limits background tasks" is used so much when OneDrive app backs up my photos perfectly without me touching the app. Immich? I just checked in on it today and it was missing three days worth of photos because it appears to just be stuck for no reason on photos it has already synced.

I know this is a lot of work and open source. I'm sorry for being a jerk here. Just venting that the iOS app needs some major love to get this worked out. <3

I find using the Immich app on a mac way faster. I am just so annoyed that the last 9 images get stuck.

I used the CLI to do my initial upload from my computer. The challenge is the mobile app still needs to check everything to confirm it's a duplicate or a net new. That's what my app continues to get stuck on.

I finally got it to zero but it still fails to upload in the background. I have no idea what I did to make it get to zero other then changing back and forth between internal and external URLs lol.
