I am perplexed by why this might be happening since I do eventually see video but not until it's too late - meaning renders the device useless for me

  1. I have the JetKVM connected to HDMI directly to motherboard
  2. USB C is powering the device from the motherboard
  3. ATX board connected to jetkvm via RJ11 and no usb c.
  4. USB stays connected

Not sure what you mean by point 4, but initially I was thinking that since your USB C port that is powering the JetKVM does not provide power until the boot begins then that would explain your experience. You can check to see if the JetKVM is powered when the server is off. Another possibility is that although you have power from that USB port even with the server off, but at boot time the USB port "gets reset" & causes the JetKVM to be restarted - again by the time you can see the video you've missed the boot. You could try powering the JetKVM externally with the provided USB splitter cable.

However - thinking about it further - I realized you'd probably have to login again to the JetKVM which you don't mention - so my above analysis appears incorrect in your scenario.

I imagine your problem has probably more todo with that HDMI port not being active until the OS kicks in. Does your M/B (itself) have other video ports? If you have a physical monitor connected to that HDMI port - do you see the boot process in it's entirety?
