qBittorrent version and Operating System
qBittorrent 4.3.3 (32-bit), installed via Chocolatey on Windows 10 64-bit 20H2, build19042.804
What is the problem
On Options > Behavior > Desktop, I have "Start qBittorrent minimized" ticked, but the feature doesn't seem to work. It happens both on Windows startup and when I quit qBittorrent and start it again
What is the expected behavior
When started, qBittorrent should go directly to the system tray, without launching in the taskbar and opening a screen
Steps to reproduce
Either reboot and wait for qBittorrent to launch on Windows startup, or Exit (Ctrl+Q) and start it again
Extra info(if any)
@thalieht commented on GitHub (Feb 26, 2021):
Try the official installer and since your OS is 64 bit, you should prefer 64 bit apps. Can't reproduce.
@fabiorzfreitas commented on GitHub (Feb 26, 2021):
I updated my installation to 64-bit, this seemed to be a leftover from a previous installation. The issue persists.
Chocolatey already uses the official installer, it simply runs "qbittorrent_4.3.3_x64_setup.exe" (obtained from https://sourceforge.net/projects/qbittorrent/files/qbittorrent-win32/qbittorrent-4.3.3/qbittorrent_4.3.3_x64_setup.exe/download) with the "/S" silent switch.
Just to be thorough, I will perform an uninstall and do it manually, I'll continue writing this comment after that
Yeah, I still can replicate the issue even if I purge
%localappdata%\qbittorrentand%appdata%\qbittorrentbetween installs.I vaguely recall years ago trying to find other people with this issue and I have a hunch — no more than that — that this issue seemed to be related to OS language, I remember reading some "non-english" names, such as mine, in the threads I stumbled upon.
I'm sorry for this weird description, but the fact is that I pursued the steps suggested and added a few debugging from my own (the appdata stuff) and couldn't NOT get the issue.
Thanks for your assistance.
@thalieht commented on GitHub (Feb 27, 2021):
You also need the option "Minimize qBittorrent to notification area".
@fabiorzfreitas commented on GitHub (Feb 27, 2021):
Ok, it works. Then this should be turned into a feature request: I don't want to have qBittorrent minimize to notification area, I just want it to start in the background, without opening a window.
@wefalltomorrow commented on GitHub (Mar 29, 2022):
I would like this as well.
@ghost commented on GitHub (Jul 30, 2022):
Then I would consider this a duplicate of https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/12943
