qBittorrent & operating system versions
qBittorrent: 5.0.5
Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.4
What is the problem?
I turn on qBittorrent and within a few minutes it takes down my entire mac mini.
This was happening on v4.6.3, but only once every few weeks. With this new update it's bring down my machine within 30 minutes. I've also noticed it's spiking my CPU.
In the mean time I've reverted to v4.3.8 as it's the last stable version I was able to use and had a copy of.

@qBittUser commented on GitHub (Apr 28, 2025):
Old version installers are available here:
https://www.fosshub.com/qBittorrent-old.html
Ideally it's good if you delete and allow latest qBit to recreate your settings file, because upgrading from one major version to a very new one can cause issues and not automatically reset things to latest defaults.
Your provided log file mentions only qBittorrent/4.3.8 not anything newer.
You should consider changing your settings (IP, Port, password) to avoid potential security issues and exclude them next time you provide log and preferences files, maybe write
REDACTED.You should also make sure you're using latest stable with libtorrent v1.2 by downloading
qBittorrent Mac OS Xinstead of selectingqBittorrent Mac OS X (qt6 lt20)when trying latest installers.Maybe you only tried latest qBit with built with libtorrent v2.0 and that might have caused you issues with your external drives.

Partially related to the "Mac crashing - qBittorrent (Torrent)" issue.
I'm on Tahoe 26.0.1 (25A362), and Mac crashed for me when downloading multiple files via qBittorrent to an external Hard Disk Drive. The problem in my case was that the HDD was exFAT and for some reason Mac handled it very badly specially with Spotlight, sleep, etc
The solution in my case was to reformat the External HDD from exFAT to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and now it's all good.
Leaving this message for anyone else going through the mac crashing when torrenting.
@zouyonghao commented on GitHub (Jan 28, 2026):
That's exactly the case I am facing... Why macOS is doing so badly for its file system.
Thank you for the solution!
