Steps to reproduce:
Given torrent with structure:

    abc.torrent
        /dir1
        file1.ext
        file2.ext

qB sets download directory automatically to [Save as directory]/[abc]/{torrent contents}

  1. Right-click [abc] subdirectory and rename to desired destination subdirectory name, to save under [Save as directory], e.g., [destination] to download as [Save as directory]/[destination]/{torrent contents}
  2. Start torrent

Expected:
Torrent is downloaded with structure:

[Save as directory]
    [destination]
        /dir1
        file1.ext
        file2.ext

Actual:
Torrent is downloaded with structure:

[Save as directory]
    [abc]
        /dir1
        file1.ext
        file2.ext

Additionally, the following empty directories are created:

[Save as directory]
    [destination]
        /dir1

Environment:
Windows 8.1 x64, qB 3.1.11

Workaround?:
Not really. Setting the [Save as directory] to the desired [destination] instead downloads as:

[Save as directory]/[destination]
    [abc]
        /dir1
        file1.ext
        file2.ext

This is not exactly a duplicate of #588.

#588 is regarding an option to remove the root folder created by qB. This issue is regarding the proposed workaround, the renaming of the root folder, which does not work and creates spurious directories. Different (albeit somewhat related) issues.

EDIT: Seems to be related to #1455.
