SOCKS is not HTTP, so it is not a 'bug' simply a consequence of using a SOCKS proxy, if you are hoping to use the built in search, you need to use a proxy server that also supports HTTP: and/or HTTPS:

Most browsers can use socks proxy for browsing web , so I don't understand why this won't work ?
