Please provide the following information
qBittorrent version and Operating System:
3.3.12 Windows 10 x64
If on linux, libtorrent and Qt version:
What is the problem:
Qbittorrent is randomly downloading unselected files in a multi-file torrent
What is the expected behavior:
To only download the files with checked boxes
Steps to reproduce:
Download several multi-file torrents and dont select some of the files, it will randomly download 1 or more additional unselected files.
Extra info(if any):
I wanted to add that these are not .unwanted files, they show up right along side the selected files in the directory. This has happened somewhere between 20-30 times over the past week and as best as I can tell is an issue new to this most recent version.

https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#I_configured_qBittorrent_to_not_download_some_files_in_a_torrent_but_they_still_appear_on_my_hard_disk_why_is_that
At the moment qBittorrent dumps the unselected files that contain cross-file-pieces in the same directory as the desired files.
libtorrent 1.1.0+ (the backend of qBittorrent) supports partfiles so we must wait for qBittorrent to adopt libtorrent 1.1.x.
@duzers commented on GitHub (May 17, 2017):
I have the same problem.

Version 4.0.x is released. It uses libtorrent 1.1.x which puts the unwanted part files in the hidden file
".<torrent_hash>.parts" which is put in the same folder as the root folder(if any) of the torrent.
For the moment it's not possible to put that file somewhere else.
