By the amount of requests I would think a plugin system would be (a lot of work yes but also) a great addition. While the time of you (developers) is heavily limited others could help fulfilling some of the requests without touching the original source. They write plugins and you don't need to take of it any longer.

It is a lot of work to add a plugin system (which is probably why this request will be denied/ignored) but I think its definitely worth it.
