Please provide the following information
qBittorrent version and Operating System
QB 4.0.3
Windows 10 Pro, x64 (10.0.1xxxx)
If on linux, libtorrent and Qt version
(type here)
What is the problem
Sometimes QB won't open from the tray after I keep it on during the night. Trying to click it to maximize QB from tray opens only the outline of the window before it minimizes onto Windows taskbar. QB icon shows on Windows taskbar but it won't open.
The tray icon itself no longer works. You can't right click it and if you repeatedly try, it crashes. However, when you mouseover, you can see DL/UL speeds changing, suggesting torrents are still active.
What is the expected behavior
(type here)
Steps to reproduce
I do not know what causes this. Checking the log only shows a very long list showing I/O errors when, I assume, QB attempted to seed the missing files from torrents I only downloaded select files from.
Example:
(N) 2017-12-31T05:09:38 - An I/O error occurred, 'TORRENT' paused. TORRENT partfile read (F:\LOCATION\FILE.exe) error: No such file or directory
QB has traditionally given me a lot of issues when downloading certain parts/files of a torrent, i.e. mainly still attempting to download those files I did not select and leaving the incomplete husk while still taking up all the space of that file.

I have this same issue, not using start minimized but if i leave it just in the tray for a bit it wont open back up. i click it and see the outline of the window for a second but nothing, right click doesnt bring up context menu. have to close and reopen. was working fine for months and this started the last few weeks. I am not sure if it has crashed or what but it is super inconvenient.
@60john commented on GitHub (Apr 7, 2018):
Same problem here. I have to go thru Task Manager to close it. Started a couple of weeks ago. I updated to the newest version but the problem still persist.
@dpill83 commented on GitHub (Apr 14, 2018):
I've been having this issue for quite some time. Can't find a cause for the issue. Have to force close the program to get it relaunch. Causes torrents to have to be rechecked.
@MaintainUplift commented on GitHub (Apr 20, 2018):
Yup, same here. When minimized to tray it seems to still download and you can still add new torrents, and it'll even let you know when they are done - but you are locked out otherwise.
@carverofchoice commented on GitHub (Jun 1, 2019):
This is still a problem in the newest version. It remains minimized in the system tray no matter what I do. There is no way to view the GUI.
@m384wwn commented on GitHub (Jul 6, 2019):
Same issue here. 4.1.6 on W10P 1809
@AnrDaemon commented on GitHub (Jul 21, 2019):
Most prominent under shells other than Explorer.
Based on previous experience, I would suggest re-checking the icon click handler.
Because f.e. TS3 don't have such issues.
@Mr-Personality commented on GitHub (Jun 17, 2021):
I have the same problem (v4.3.5). Normally, you can click on the tray icon to bring up the program, but sometimes the tray icon stops working.
I don't think the problem is caused by an 'old' install that needs refreshing, because I recently completely re-installed the program from scratch a couple of months ago, but I still have this problem.
@firew4lker commented on GitHub (Apr 21, 2022):
I have the same issue with version 4.4.2 on Archlinux.
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.4

Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.17.3-arch1-1 (64-bit)

@haagensen commented on GitHub (Jun 24, 2023):
Same here. qBittorrent 4.5.1 on Ubuntu Budgie 23.04.
@luzpaz commented on GitHub (Nov 17, 2023):
Please try to reproduce on 4.6.0
@luzpaz commented on GitHub (Nov 26, 2023):
@firew4lker @haagensen ping
@haagensen commented on GitHub (Nov 28, 2023):
Thanks for the heads-up @luzpaz -- seems fixed to me (4.6.2). Thank you!
edit -- oops, spoke too soon. After a few minutes more, the "show" on tray's menu does... nothing. All the other options seems to work, though. Is there some way to create a logfile or something that may help?
edit 2 -- some more info. Clicking "show" on the tray briefly flashes a QB's icon on my dock. Clicking "exit", however, shows the icon on the dock, this time with two dots under it (meaning two windows, I suppose). Once clicked, the "exiting qB" dialog is shown. I click the "no" button, QB's icon stays on the dock but clicking on it does nothing. QB's tray now shows the first entry as "hide".
@luzpaz commented on GitHub (Nov 29, 2023):
@haagensen thanks, can you paste your full About info ?
Edit: Seems related to #18756
@haagensen commented on GitHub (Nov 29, 2023):
Qt: 6.6.1
Libtorrent: 1.2.19.0
Boost: 1.83.0
OpenSSL: 1.1.1w

@luzpaz commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2024):
@haagensen any change in 4.6.6 ?
@haagensen commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2024):
Yup, seems to be fixed for me.
Left it on the tray for quite some time, and the "show" option popped up the window back as expected.
Thanks, @luzpaz!
@AnrDaemon commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2024):
Nope, still does not open from tray icon.
