These should be removed. I think applyVariables can just be removed, but before removing COMPUTE, the Dynamic Expressions page needs to be updated to include all the available functions and the (new) syntax[es] for invoking them.

Also, all the examples in the Functions page (and perhaps elsewhere in the Wiki) need to be scrubbed to remove instances of the above constructs.
