This issue effects specific torrents, and when one that fails to work is found, is consistently reproducible with that torrent.

  • Add a torrent (i.e. download a .torrent and open with qBt).
  • Rename the parent folder of the torrent (I haven't checked if the issue effects subfolders or filenames).
  • Click OK to confirm the dialog.
  • Notice that the folder rename is not reflected in the file list, where the original folder name is indicated.
  • If you try to rename the folder again, it will rename, but both new and old folders will be created on disk, and/or the file list will change and have two copies of the folder name you selected, and it will download this way too. (i.e. the torrent's files will go to "download location/selected parent folder name/selected parent folder name/*" (notice selected parent folder name is repeated twice)

My "and/or" to the scenario may reflect slight variations in the steps taken when this problem occurs.. I will try to find torrents to demonstrate the problem and note exactly which result occurs with which steps. I have changed my usual practices to avert this problem, since the only solution I've found once it is encountered is to delete the torrent, delete extraneous directories from the file system, and re-add the torrent using the work-around below:

Work-Around

  • When adding the torrent, do NOT rename anything in the torrent.
  • After the torrent has been added, rename folders/file as desired.
    Celebrate success!

@sledgehammer999 close. I think it's fixed now.
